Terms of use
Welcome to Renomates. These terms are the rules for using our website. By creating an account or using Renomates you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
1. Who we are
Renomates is run by Laura Marie Quattrocelli trading as Renomates Co (ABN 24 316 120 668) (“we”, “us”). You can contact us at hello@renomates.co.
2. What Renomates is (and isn’t)
- Renomates is a community where homeowners share their own renovation experiences: what it cost, which trades they used and how dealing with the council went.
- Everything on Renomates is shared by members. We don’t check it. Costs, timelines and opinions are people’s own recollections, they will differ from your project, and they are not quotes, advice or a guarantee.
- We don’t endorse any tradie, business, council or member. Renomates is not a marketplace, and we are not a party to any agreement between you and a tradie. Always get your own quotes, check licences and insurance, and get professional advice before you spend money.
3. Your account
- You must be 18 or over to create an account.
- Give accurate information, keep your password safe, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You’re responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account. Don’t pretend to be someone else.
4. Your content
- “Your content” means anything you post: your profile, listings, costs, tradie reviews, council notes, stories, photos, captions and messages.
- You own your content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, resize, reproduce and share your content on and in connection with Renomates (including in previews when a listing is shared) for as long as it’s on the site.
- You promise you have the right to post it: you wrote it, took the photos or have permission, and it doesn’t break anyone’s rights or the law.
- You can edit or delete your listings at any time. Copies others have already saved or shared, and backups, may remain for a limited time.
5. Content rules
Keep Renomates honest and useful. When you post, you agree that:
- It’s your own reno and your own experience. Share what really happened, and give costs as accurately as you can (if you choose to show a range instead of an exact amount, pick the one that really fits). Don’t post about renovations that aren’t yours.
- No fake or biased reviews. Don’t review your own business or a competitor’s, don’t post reviews in exchange for payment, discounts or favours, and don’t ask others to post on your behalf.
- No advertising or spam. Tradies and businesses are welcome as members, but listings must be a genuine reno at your own home, not marketing.
- Be fair when you name a tradie or business. Stick to facts and your own honest opinion based on what you experienced. Use the business’s trading name where you can. Don’t make accusations you can’t back up, such as claims of fraud or criminal conduct.
- Website links are for the tradie’s own business only. If you add a website for a tradie, it must be their own business website or page. No advertising, affiliate or referral links, and nothing else.
- Protect privacy. Don’t post street addresses, house numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, number plates, or photos that show people’s faces or neighbours’ homes. Don’t name individual council staff or other private individuals.
- No unlawful or harmful content. No harassment, hate, threats, discrimination, defamation, illegal content, malware or anything that infringes someone’s intellectual property.
6. Concerns about a listing
- Every listing has a Report this listing button. You can also email us at hello@renomates.co.
- If you are a business or person named in a listing and believe something is untrue, unfair or breaks these rules, email us with the link to the listing, what you think is wrong and why. We aim to look at reports within [X] business days.
- We may ask the author for more information, edit, hide or remove content, or remove content while we look into it. We aren’t able to decide disputes between members and businesses, and removing content isn’t an admission that it was wrong.
- We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules, mislead others or cause harm, with or without notice.
7. Messages
- Messages are between you and the member you’re writing to. We don’t read them as a matter of routine, but we may look at them if a message is reported, to investigate misuse, to keep people safe or if the law requires.
- You can block a member at any time, from a conversation or their listing. Blocked members can’t message you and you can’t message them. You can also report a conversation.
- Be respectful. Don’t send spam, advertising, threats or unwanted contact. Take care before sharing personal contact details or meeting someone in person.
8. Using the site
Don’t scrape or copy the site’s content in bulk, use bots or automated tools to access it, try to break or bypass its security, interfere with how it works or access other people’s data.
9. Our property
The Renomates name, logo, design and software belong to us (or our licensors). Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors. You may not use our name or logo without our written permission.
10. Third-party links and services
Renomates may link to other sites (such as a member’s Instagram) and uses services from other companies. We’re not responsible for their content or practices.
11. Disclaimers and limits of liability
- Renomates is provided “as is”. We try to keep it running and accurate, but we don’t promise it will be error-free, always available or that member content is true, complete or up to date.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from your use of Renomates or from relying on member content, including decisions about hiring a tradie or spending money on a renovation.
- Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that can’t be excluded. Where the law lets us limit our liability for something that can’t be excluded, our liability is limited to resupplying the service or paying for it to be resupplied.
- If you breach these terms and that causes us loss or a claim against us (for example, a claim about something you posted), you agree to compensate us for that loss to the extent permitted by law.
12. Ending your account
You can stop using Renomates at any time. You can delete your account yourself from your profile (“Delete my account”), which permanently removes your listings, photos, saved renos and messages. If you can’t sign in, email hello@renomates.co from your account email address. We can suspend or close accounts as described above. Sections that by their nature should continue (for example, 4, 5, 11 and 14) will continue after your account ends.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll post the new version here with a new date, and if the changes are significant we’ll let members know. If you keep using Renomates after a change, you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
